We are recruiting a Master to join our team on our company vessels. The key purpose of the role is to have Overall Command with regards operation of company vessels in compliance with Flag and Class legislation/guidance and Pentland Ferries Safety Management System, procedures and policies.

You will have Primary responsibility to ensure the seaworthiness and safety of the vessel, crew and passengers and prevention of pollution. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing vessel for voyage and tasking. Liaise, consult and advise with authority on operational matters as necessary.
  • Create, maintain and support Operational/Technical and client instructions and fully document undertakings.
  • Be fully familiarised with all factors affecting the immediate operation of the ship. Upon taking command, the Master shall familiarise one’s self with all details of the construction manoeuvrability, navigation and other equipment.
  • Conversant with latest Merchant Shipping Legislation and the requirements of authorities at each port of call. Ensure that the relevant provisions in such legislation pertaining to the operation of the vessel are fully adhered to.
  • Issue their “Standing Orders” to the crew for the efficient operation of the ship. These are to include procedures to respond to emergency shipboard situations and the preparedness of the vessel.
  • Make a daily inspection, when on board, of all parts of the vessel, ensuring that high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and preservation are maintained.

You’ll need:

  • MCA Certificate of Competence Master up to 3000gt near coastal as minimum
  • ENG 1 Medical Certificate
  • STCW Basic Safety Training (including refresher training where required)
  • Bridge Resource Management or HELM(M)
  • Dry Dock Experience
  • Strong Knowledge of Industry Rules and Regs
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • The ability to manage and lead teams effectively
  • Passenger Ship experience would be an advantage

We are recruiting a Chief Officer to join our team. The Chief Officer is the vessels “ship security officer” and appointed “ships safety officer”. They are in charge of all deck and accommodation areas. They shall ensure that all crew members in their charge are familiar with their duties and that they carry out those duties in a safe, effective and efficient manner.

Responsibilities include:

  • Complying with company S.M.S. and Standing Orders.
  • Implementation of the Domestic Passenger Ship Security Plan on board.
  • To work in close conjunction with the ship’s Safety Representative with regards to safety matters.
  • The Chief Officer shall be responsible for the correct loading, securing and discharging of the ship and for all cargo handling operations.
  • To actively support the onboard training of the crew.
  • Care and maintenance of the ship’s safety and emergency equipment.
  • Safety inspections of the vessel.
  • Updating and maintaining navigational charts and equipment with the latest version.

You’ll need:

  • MCA Certificate of Competence Chief Officer up to 3000gt near coastal as minimum
  • ENG 1 Medical Certificate
  • STCW Basic Safety Training (including refresher training where required)
  • Bridge Resource Management or HELM(M)
  • Ship Security Officer Certificate
  • Safety Officer Certificate
  • Passenger Ship certificates would be advantageous
  • Good Knowledge of Industry Rules and Regs
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • The ability to manage and lead teams effectively

We are looking for an experienced Seagoing Chief Engineer to join our team on our company vessels.

You will provide technical support to the vessel and shoreside team by means of daily operation of the engineering department, defect management, class compliance and surveys. As well as management of vessel planned maintenance.

You’ll need:

  • A Chief Engineer up to 3000kW or more 
  • Trained to SCTW 95 standard 
  • Currently hold or able to achieve a ENG1 medical certificate
  • Strong Knowledge of Industry Rules and Regs
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • The ability to manage and lead teams effectively

Certificates in Designated Security Duties and Crowd Management would be desirable but not essential as training can be provided.

We are looking for an experienced seagoing Second Engineer to work with our team on our company vessels.

You will provide technical support to the vessel and shoreside team by means of daily operation of the engineering department, defect management, class compliance and surveys. As well as management of vessel planned maintenance.

You’ll need:

  • A Second Engineer up to 3000kW or more 
  • Trained to SCTW 95 standard 
  • Currently hold or able to achieve a ENG1 medical certificate
  • Strong Knowledge of Industry Rules and Regs
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • The ability to manage and lead teams effectively

Certificates in Designated Security Duties and Crowd Management would be desirable.

We are recruiting a Deckhand to join our team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Stowing and securing vehicles and cargo on the deck.
  • Marshalling of vehicles on the car deck.
  • Mooring of the vessel at each pier or linkspan.
  • Cleanliness and painting of the vessel.
  • Assisting the Chief Officer with the vessels planned maintenance requirements.
  • Direct passengers in an emergency as per Muster List.
  • Observing vessel’s Watchkeeping rotas – helmsman, lookout etc.

You’ll need:

  • EDH and Navigational Watch Rating certificate as a minimum
  • ENG 1 Medical Certificate
  • STCW Basic Safety Training (including refresher training where required)
  • Fast Rescue Boat certificate would be advantageous
  • Passenger Ship experience would be advantageous
  • Competitive Salary + Pension Scheme
  • 14 days on shift followed by 14 days off shift
  • All training costs will be covered for the right candidate.
  • Day rate £209.92

We are recruiting a Steward to join our team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serving passengers with food and drinks and assisting with preparation of crew and passengers meals
  • Routine cleaning of the vessel and ensuring cleanliness of all passenger areas and the galley/servery
  • Compliance with current Food Safety/Hygiene legislation.

You’ll need:

  • ENG 1 Medical Certificate
  • STCW Basic Safety Training (including refresher training where required)
  • Food Hygiene Level 2 would be an advantage
  • Passenger Ship and catering experience would be an advantage
