Pentland Ferries are currently seeking suitable candidates for the position of Rope Person at Gills Bay ferry terminal. Shifts are two hours long and are based around ferry arrival and departure times, 3 times per day. The number and frequency of these shifts covered by a single individual can be flexible, dependant on availability.
The basic requirements of the position are:
- Complying with the requirements of the Company Safety Management System.
- Preparing mooring equipment for vessels’ arrival.
- Assisting vessels when berthing and departing.
- Being an effective member of the Gills Bay Oil Pollution Team.
- Assisting the Harbour Master to ensure the site is kept in a tidy and safe state.
- Taking part in regular exercises in accordance with the Oil Pollution Plan.
- Assisting the Shore Based Emergency Response Team if required.
- Maintaining security awareness in accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures.
- Practising the highest level of confidentiality.
- Complying with the requirements of the Company Safety Management System.
- Having an acute awareness of health and safety responsibilities and complying at all times with the practices and procedures outlined in related Company policies.
- Adhering to and complying with all Pentland Ferries policies and procedures.
- Behaving courteously and politely with colleagues, customers and anyone else encountered during day-to-day working duties.
- Fulfilling any other reasonable tasks and duties as requested by the line manager.
The ideal candidate would be expected to have a reasonable level of fitness in order to allow them to carry out their duties effectively.
In addition, due to the shift pattern of this position, it would suit someone with a driving licence and access to their own transport.
Any required training can be provided to the successful candidate.
