Pentland Ferries Ltd - Ferry to Orkney

The MV Pentalina will be off the route for annual refit and scheduled maintenance from Monday 8th January to Friday 19th January 2018 inclusive. We will be sailing again as normal from Saturday 20th January. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Due to a routine safety drill being held on board the MV Pentalina, the 1150 sailing from St Margaret's Hope and the 1330 sailing from Gills Bay on Tuesday 7th November have been cancelled. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

With this year's shooting season nearly upon us we would like to provide some information for passengers wishing to transport a firearm and/or ammunition on board the Pentalina. If a passenger wishes to carry a firearm and/or ammunition this must be declared at the time of booking and again at the port at which they check-in. We will also request to see a valid firearms license and photo identification of the license holder prior to boarding. Ammunition exceeding 1000 rounds should be declared at least 24 hours in advance of the sailing time. Failure to co-operate with Pentland Ferries staff or crew on these matters will result in passengers not being permitted to board the vessel. Unfortunately we cannot accept the carriage of firearms by anyone who is travelling without a vehicle. We appreciate our passengers' co-operation on this matter.

Alcohol and Smoking Policy - 08/08/2017

We would like to remind our passengers that we operate a no alcohol and no smoking policy on board the Pentalina and in our terminal buildings and we would request that all passengers adhere to this. If we believe that a passenger is under the influence of alcohol and/or is being disruptive to other passengers they may be refused passage. Any alcohol brought on board should be left in the vehicle and if travelling on foot it will be stored appropriately on the car deck until discharging. Smoking is not permitted on the Pentalina including the use of e-cigarettes and vapes. We appreciate our passengers’ co-operation with this matter.

Due to the proposed extension and development of the marshalling area in St Margaret's Hope, there will be limited customer parking available until further notice. We would advise foot passengers travelling on the ferry that there may not be space available to leave a car at the terminal and to use other transport where possible. Unfortunately, until the extension is complete we can no longer offer long term parking. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.

We are introducing a trial 50% discount scheme to benefit foot passengers accompanying children on the ferry. Please see below for Terms and Conditions. • The discount will apply to adult foot passengers travelling from St. Margaret’s Hope to Gills Bay and back on the next immediate sailing. • Full payment will be taken on the outward journey and the return trip will be free. • Children will not be discounted but can still use a Loyalty Card. • Please inform the Purser or Customer Services staff when paying on the outward journey that you intend to claim the discount on the return part of your journey. • Normal Conditions of Carriage will apply. Please contact our Booking Office on 0800 688 8998 to make your reservation.
