Directions

Travelling from Inverness to Gills Bay takes approximately 2 ½ hours. Take the A9 north bound route out of Inverness. When you reach Latheron take the A99 road to Wick/John O'Groats. Follow the A99 through Wick. Follow the A99 towards John O'Groats. After approximately 15 miles turn left just past Freswick, veer right. Follow the road for approximately one and a half miles, turn left onto the A836 follow the A836 for approximately 2 miles then turn right to the ferry terminal.

Connections

The nearest train stations are Wick and Thurso.   

There are bus links between Gills Bay and Inverness that connect with most of our sailings. This is the X97/X99 service and is operated by Stagecoach. Please visit www.stagecoachbus.com for departure times or to book seats visit www.citylink.co.uk. Please note, this service has a change at Dunbeath War Memorial. 

There are also bus links between St Margaret’s Hope and Kirkwall that connect with most of our sailings. This is the X1 service and is operated by Stagecoach. Please visit www.stagecoachbus.com for departure times. 

Although the bus should always connect with the ferry, it may not be able to wait if the ferry is delayed and vice versa.

New Sunday Bus Service

As a summer trial from May to August, Stagecoach have introduced a Sunday bus service from Kirkwall to St Margaret’s Hope to meet each of the ferry departures and arrivals. Visit www.stagecoachbus.com and search the X1 service for departure times.
